Wet Drum Magnetic Separator
Magsmith Magnetic Industry’s Wet Drum Magnetic Separator is designed to remove very fine magnetizable components from low concentration, low viscosity liquids.


Working Principle
The liquid flows through a semicircular separating chamber beneath a stainless steel drum. The cylinder consisting of permanent magnetic discs are positioned within the drum to which the magnetizable particles are attracted. By rotating the drum, the filter cake is lifted out of the slurry and the magnetic field.

How it Works
Here’s a step-by-step explanation of how a Wet Drum Magnetic Separator works:
Step 1: Feed Material
A mixture of water and magnetic particles (such as iron ore, magnetite, or ferrosilicon) is fed into the separator.
Step 2: Drum Rotation
The drum, which is partially submerged in the feed material, rotates at a slow speed
Step 3: Magnetic Field
A strong magnetic field is generated by the permanent magnetic discs or electromagnets located inside the drum.
Step 4: Magnetic Separation
As the drum rotates, the magnetic field attracts and holds the magnetic particles, separating them from the non-magnetic particles.
Step 5: Non-Magnetic Discharge
The non-magnetic particles, now free from magnetic particles, are discharged from the separator as a clean product.
Step 6: Magnetic Collection
The magnetic particles, still attached to the drum, are collected and discharged as a separate product.
Step 7: Drum Cleaning
The drum is continuously cleaned by the water flow, which helps to remove any accumulated magnetic particles and maintain the separator’s efficiency.
